Step 1

Read the Fasting Instructions section below.

How should I prepare to fast?

We recommend reading some Scripture passages that demonstrate different types of biblical fasting.

  • Matthew 17:20-21 (fasting for freedom)
  • Acts 9:9-19 (fasting for spiritual decision making/break through)
  • Isaiah 58:6-7 (fasting to help the less fortunate)

On the day of the fast...

  • Drink juice and water. Chew gum and/or breath mints. This will help take your mind off your hunger.
  • Spend the time you normally would have spent eating praying to God.
  • Allow your hunger to remind you of God's strength and your weakness.

What type of fast should I do?

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

If you've never fasted before...skip a meal.

If you occasionally fast but seldom more than a meal...skip two.

If you are a regular faster, go for 36 hours. (Dinner on Sunday to breakfast on Tuesday.)

Why is fasting important?

The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. We are counting on this time of shared sacrifice and shared prayer to heighten your sensitivity to the promptings of the Spirit and the voice of God.

Always remember to check with your medical provider before beginning any kind of fast.

Step 2

Follow the prayer prompts during your time of fasting and prayer.

Read Joel 2:12:   “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

Pray For...

  1. People who the virus to be healed from it.  Be specific as you are able;
  2. That God will supernaturally eradicate this virus from Earth;
  3. Until then, pray that God will accelerate the development and distribution of a vaccine.  Pray that scientists and leaders would be given energy and wisdom;
  4. For the time when so many feel helpless to draw many people into a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
  5. For our church to be part of a revival the Holy Spirit longs to spread in our land.
