At Good Shepherd, we believe it’s important to utilize our strength of people and resources to make a big impact in our local community. One of the ways we do this is through Premier Partnerships with organizations in our area. Premier Partnerships are designed to present a multi-faceted approach to community service by meeting a variety of needs with a single organization.

Lake Wylie Elementary School

We recognize the importance of being a strong voice in the life of this school and believe it’s no accident that it’s located almost literally in our own “backyard”. At Lake Wylie Elementary School, we’ll champion our causes of homelessness, child literacy, care and community impact by helping to meet the emotional, physical and mental needs of the students, teachers, staff and parents. We’re offering a variety of both on-going and one-time ways to serve this school through projects like Reading Buddies, teacher appreciation, food pantry, mentoring and more!

  • Reading Buddy Program (North Star Reading Program) - Model positive reading habits by reading weekly for about an hour with a specific kindergarten or second grade student.
  • New Teacher Buddy Program - Support a new teacher throughout the year with classroom supplies, administrative tasks, and encouragement.
  • Mentorship Program - Meet weekly with a specific student as a mentor to provide positive encouragement and serve as a role model. Mentors can come for breakfast, lunch or during physical activity time.
  • Adopting a local homeless family - Supply school supplies, food and other needs to a homeless family whose children attend Lake Wylie Elementary.
  • Free Little Library - Support literacy in our community by being a sponsor for a Free Little Library. this would include regular visits to ensure physical integrity, book selection and availability.
  • Food Pantry - Assist with the Lake Wylie Elementary in-house Food Pantry by donating specific food items and/or helping with organization and product rotation.

  • Read Across America Week - Volunteers will read to a classroom during the week in March. Each reader should purchase a book from one of the grade-level lists and donate to the classroom after reading. This aligns with Dr. Seuss' birthday week.
  • Teacher Appreciation - Encourage teachers and staff throughout the year.
  • Campus Beautification - Roll up your sleeves and help keep the Lake Wylie Elementary Campus clean, beautiful and inviting to students, parents and community. Dates TBD.
  • Winter Parade - Lake Wylie Elementary School’s Winter Parade will be held in December.  Stand along the parade route and cheer on participants and help serve hot chocolate to students, families and school staff as the parade ends in Good Shepherd’s parking lot.
  • Staff Holiday Lunch - Help decorate the media center, serve a meal or provide a dessert to show our appreciation to the staff in December.
