All 6th-12th grade students are invited to join us.
How much does it cost?
$129 per student. $75 Deposit is required upon registration. All balances are due February 8.
*The $75 deposit is refundable up to January 20, 2019 with written notification to Devin Tharp
**Financial scholarships are available upon request.
What if I have multiple students?
Multi-student discounts are available for families with 3 or more students attending. The first two students should pay the full price and then the third (and subsequent) student registrations will only need to pay the $75 deposit.
What's included in the cost?
The retreat cost includes transportation, lodging, all meals (5), t-shirt, retreat book, and activities.
Where is the retreat held?
The retreat is held at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest, NC about 2 hrs from Charlotte.
What are the accommodations like?
Students are housed in youth housing which are rooms that sleep 12 with twin bunk beds and a large bathroom with 2 shower stalls. All LINENS and TOWELS ARE PROVIDED! Each room has its own exterior entrance from a shared front porch and a back porch with a view of the woods. Students will be divided by gender and grade. Each room will have at least one adult leader.
What is the food like?
Food service is provided by the conference center and offers 3 buffet style meals each day with up to 8 serving lines to accommodate large groups quickly and efficiently. They provide gluten free, dairy free, and vegan options at all meals and are willing to work with food allergies.
What time is drop off and pick up?
Check-in begins 4:15pm Friday February 8th. We will leave Good Shepherd Church at 5:00 pm. We will arrive back at Good Shepherd Church at ~4:00pm Sunday February 10th.
How are students being transported to the conference center?
We will be using charter buses to transport students and leaders to and from Ridgecrest.
Do students need additional money for the weekend?
There are vending machines on campus as well as the Clouds coffee shop where students can purchase snacks and drinks. We will also be selling Winter Retreat themed merchandise throughout the weekend.
How are students grouped for the weekend?
All students meet together for worship and the main sessions. Students will also participate in a small group of 8-10 other students and one adult leader for deeper discussion of the sessions. If a student attends a Student LifeGroup they will be with other students in their LifeGroup. Which means that small groups will be divided by gender for middle school and mixed for high school.
How many adult leaders are going?
We will have at least one adult leader for every 6 students. All leaders are appropriately vetted and equipped to lead students.
Are students allowed to bring friends?
Yes! We encourage students to invite their fellow middle or high school friends to join us on the retreat. Friends will need register by the deadline (January 20th).
What should students bring with them on the retreat?
All registered students will be emailed a packing list a couple weeks before the retreat and be available on the website.
Are there any other forms I have to fill out?
Yes, all students must turn in a completely filled out medical release and participant consent form signed by a parent/guardian to attend the retreat. The form is available online here.
“Defiant” is our theme for the weekend as we look into a story about 3 teenagers who defied a king and culture in order to honor God in their context. It’s a story that comes from the Old Testament in the book of Daniel and will encourage students that when they are obedient to God, he will honor their faithfulness.
